Wedding DJ at The Venue at Crago Farm — A Night to Remember
Nestled in the rolling hills just north of Asheville, The Venue at Crago Farm is one of the most sought-after barn wedding destinations in Western North Carolina. I've had the pleasure of DJing there multiple times, and each event teaches me something new about working in a beautiful, rustic space.
The Space
The main barn has high ceilings and exposed timber beams that give it incredible natural warmth. The sound bounces differently than a traditional ballroom — bass frequencies spread wide while vocals can get lost if you're not careful with speaker placement. My setup puts full-range speakers on the dance floor with a separate zone of background speakers near the cocktail tables along the side wall.
Getting the Crowd Moving
Crago Farm crowds tend to skew toward classic rock, country, and Top 40 crossover hits. Don't let that box you in, though. The transition from dinner to dancing is where things get interesting. I ease in with mid-tempo Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty while plates are still being cleared, then shift into Bruno Mars territory as the dance floor starts to fill.
Outdoor Ceremony Considerations
If the couple is doing the ceremony outside in the garden, I'll run a separate wireless speaker system for the processional and recessional. Wind is the enemy of outdoor sound in the mountains — always test levels with the directional wind patterns at least an hour before guests arrive.
Crago Farm is a venue that rewards thorough preparation. Every couple who's been married there will tell you the same thing: the atmosphere does half the work. Your job as the DJ is to match that energy and carry it all the way to the last song.
